We grew Together.
Coloured pencil drawing on acrylic background.
I visited the letterpress workshop to remind myself how it works. Letterpress printing is a relief based form of movable type printing.
We did a few prints and was told that we could print on different materials/textures like leaves and on old cloths.

Layout workshop
We were given a task to create a two page magazine by cutting out headlines, images and text from magazines/newspapers to produce a our own layout. We were to use masking tape as guidelines.
We also defined different parts of the magazine:
- Image
- Page Number
- Heading
- Copy - Text.
- Standfirst - The summery of the article.
- Byline - The name of the author.
- Picture Captions - Text that describes the image.
- Drop Cap - The first letter of the article, which is usually bold.
- Running Head - Title that is repeated at the top of the page.
Once again, we were asked to visit Elephant & Castle and take photos of the typography in it. I’ve realised that there are many sans serif fonts and were mainly found on signs and on billboards.

Typography
For homework we had to draw up three types of fonts and each one with different serif then label their body parts. I have chosen Helvetica (sans), Sanchez (slab) and Kingthings (bracketed).

Nov 4th / Tagged: Typography Serif Helvetica Font / 15 notes †Typography Class - Serifs
A serif is a light projection finishing off with a stroke.
Unbracketed: Attached directly to the letterform (right angle)
Hairline: Much thinner than the main strokes
Wedge: Triangular in shape
Bracketed: Curved between the serif and main strokes
Slab or square: Heavier in weight and thinner than the main strokes
Sans: Without a serif
Elephant & Castle
In the afternoon we were asked to visit the Elephant & Castle market/shopping centre and record our experience.
This “experience” wasn’t knew to me at all as I have lived at Elephant & Castle for over two decades! (Makes me sound so old…). Keeping that in mind, I thought I’d take some photos of what I see/think about the area.
I have taken many photos of graffiti as I think there are a lot of criminal acts in and around the area.
We also learnt the stencil print technique; cutting out a stencil and then paint between the gaps. My first and only attempt was… a fail. It bled a lot and my stencil fell apart. So I decided to make a new stencil at home and redo them.
Oct 27th / Notes †Along with the colour workshop, we learnt monoprinting. A monoprint is a imprint of an image made from a printable metal plate or wood block.
I found an image of a butterfly and with a pencil I traced around it on the printing block. Lifting up the tracing to see my neat outline, I decided to print a few more images.
